Selecting The Right Paint For Your Home

Painting is a cheap way to give an old room a breath of fresh air. It can also be the difference between selling your home quickly or after months on the market. With so many colors to choose from, the process can get pretty overwhelming. That is why we listed out some helpful steps that will make determining your color a lot less stressful.

What Brand Do You Use?

After trying out paint products from all area paint suppliers we have found Sherwin Williams to give you the best bang for your buck. While products advertise at a high cost, we typically pay marginally less for all products. These savings are past on to our customers, as a benefit of working with us! Sherwin Williams Super Paint is the most versatile paint I have ever used. It has primer included in the paint and it bonds well to about any surface. It also has great coverage, durability and minimal flashing. Ever other paint in the same price range is mostly water and does little to protect your home. Super Paint also is the only paint in its price range that is warrantied. It comes with a standard 25 year warranty, twice the industry standard.

What Sheen Is Right For Me?

When looking at choosing the right sheen you must know a couple factors;

-Is the area high traffic?

-Do you have kids?

-Are the walls in good condition?

-Are the walls textured?

Paint comes in 5 sheen’s;

-Flat

-Eggshell

-Satin

-Semi Gloss

-Gloss

Flat

Flat has the lowest amount of gloss in it. Flat resembles a matte appearance, so it does a great job hiding imperfections. On the other hand, it is also the easiest paint to get dirty. Just a finger print smug can cause havoc on a newly painted wall. Only conditions I ever advise flat paint is when there are imperfections all over the wall.

Eggshell

The eggshell finish is very popular, as it carries some durability with very little gloss. People tend to lean towards this option over flat and satin. It does a good job holding up to abuse, but light colors are still concerning when using a low sheen.

Satin

The number one sheen I suggest to customers is satin. It has incredible durability and a manageable amount of gloss added. It will hold up very well in high traffic areas and homes filled with kiddos. If your like me, you only want to paint things once. Satin makes it possible.

Semi Gloss

When it comes to doors, trim, casing and cabinetry there is only one option. Semi gloss does the best job at protecting your wood work. With a large amount of gloss added, it can hold up to scuffs and daily abuse. When you think about painting wood there is no other option!

Gloss

This sheen is rarely used and is only good for safety related objects in my opinion.

Choosing Colors

We help make choosing colors easy. We offer a free color consultation with every job. During this time, you will meet with a interior/exterior designer and discuss colors to match your decor, furniture, landscaping and shingles. The designers work for Sherwin Williams, so this is all the do! Even without a color consultation, we can simplify the process and get the right color picked.
