Consultation:
Every cabinet painting project starts with an initial estimate. We will always show up on time with a smile on our faces. Dillon or Luke will walk through the cabinet’s condition and discuss recommendations they may have. If defects are found, we will show you them so you understand all areas that will be addressed. After they finish taking notes of the area, you will receive a quote within 3 business days. It will be detailed with all the information you may need to compare bids.
Preparation & Cabinet Painting:
First of all, a lot of contractors can make your cabinets look good for the first year, but long-lasting results are hard to obtain if any preparation steps are missed, and even light coats are not applied. Using the right materials is just as important as the technique used to apply it; hence, make sure the contractors you have bid your home explain all materials they use and the warranty they offer. Furthermore, cheap caulk will crack, and paint without a bonding primer will peel. We require four days minimum to finish the painting process.
Here are the following steps we take when preparing your cabinets for painting:
First of all, we sweep, dust, mop and scrub all cabinetry, floors, and counter tops. This ensures the area will be dust free, rather than filled with potential specks that can fall on the cabinets while drying. We clean any grease or build up with TSP cleaner (commercial cleaning solution). We make sure all cabinetry is completely clean and ready for sanding. As a result, the paint will bond better and last forever.
All walls, floors, counter tops, windows and any other non-painted surface will be covered with plastic, paper and tape until all work is 100% complete. This does mean the room is off limit for the rest of the project, as we want little as dust possible in the work area. Spraying equipment is setup including the sprayer, dry racks and spray rack.
Remove all hinges, pulls and knobs. Label each cabinet position at this point so we know what door and drawer goes where.
Rough up all the framing, drawers and doors with 150-grit sandpaper. This will help the primer adhere to the wood. Once sanding is complete, clean with a dry rag. Make sure all dust is removed from all paintable surfaces. Apply caulk to all joints and defects that may require it. Spread evenly and thoroughly. Make sure all defects are addressed, prior to priming.
Apply one thin coat of ProBlock Primer by Sherwin Williams to the cabinetry. Once drying has occurred, apply a second coat. The light coats allow the paint to slowly bond to the wood, giving it an extremely strong bond. The second coat will help reduce the wood grain from showing through.
Apply two-three light coats of paint to all the cabinetry. All painting is done by spraying. We use high end tips on all guns, which yield a better result in application. We typically use Pro Classic by Sherwin Williams on all cabinet painting, which is a top tier painting product.
Once complete, we must allow 24 hours of dry time before we can re-install all hardware, doors and drawers.
Clean up the area and bring it back to its original order. Review all work and check for any defects. Make sure everything is complete 100% to your satisfaction. If satisfied, an invoice will be sent with any pricing adjustments that may have been made.
